The Open University believe everyone should have the opportunity to unlock their potential, whatever their circumstances. That’s why for over 50 years we’ve had no formal entry requirements on almost all our undergraduate qualifications.

You’ll join more than 120,000 students who study with us online every year, who benefit from truly flexible distance learning. And because you can fit studying around your life, you can still earn while you learn - 76% of our students work alongside their studies. You can even access your course materials from anywhere you can get online, making sure you have the freedom to achieve your goals, wherever you are.

The BA/BSc (Honours) Open is our most flexible degree programme because you can study any subjects you like, in any combination. This means you can build a qualification that's unique to you. For your BA/BSc (Honours) Open degree you can:

  • study a broad range of subjects; or
  • specialise in one subject area for half of your degree and study a broad range of subjects for the other; or
  • specialise in two subject areas, dividing your time equally between both.

With BSc (Honours) Chemistry, you’ll have study materials, an online study portal, access to online scientific instruments, home experiments, short laboratory schools, a dedicated tutor, student forums, learning events and more.
